Seo In Hyung

Working at major architecture firms in the United States such as HOK and KPF, Jason became well-versed with a wide range of project types in a variety of locations encompassing residential developments, mixed-use towers, hospitality projects, cultural facilities, retail developments and others. With a background in sculpture, combined with his architectural education in Washington University, he embraces the challenge of forging a unique solution to each project which is aesthetically pleasing, suitable for each particular context and comfortable for the potential end users.

Upon joining Dongil Architects & Engineers in 2011, his talented designing ability has proven to be a strong driving force for the firm’s design capability. Cultivating grounds for better design and user experience, Jason now leads Design Studio of the firm which is a focal point of all design-sensitive projects of the firm.

Standing at the very front-end of the firm’s architectural designs, Jason has successfully executed his designs in numerous projects with major residential developers in Korea including Hyundai E&C (Songdo A16BL Development, Songdo A15BL Development), Posco E&C (Songdo E5 Block Mixed-Use Development / Songdo Arcbay), GS E&C (Busan City Park District 1 Redevelopment), and Hyosung Group (Harrington Place Ocean Hills / Danam Building Renovation). He also established successful partnership with the hospitality business through his design excellence shown in Podium Renovation Project of Ritz-Carlton Hotel.

Jason brings a collaborative and adaptive spirit to every project, resulting in successful partnerships with all involved parties. This unique quality is imperative especially in high profile projects one of which is Songdo Landmark City A District Master Plan.

His design approach to each project is based on how a particular scheme can offer the best value to the client, benefit the surrounding context, and improve the encounters of its potential users. Songdo Arcbay is a good example of his approach as it displays a unique aesthetics demanded by the city authorities, yet creates an amicable retail environment facing the waterfront.

Jason was also involved in renovation projects of historical importance. Previously designed by a renowned Korean architect Joong-up Kim, Danam Building Renovation is a project Jason accomplished a keen balance between the historical heritage and modernity. A careful selection of materiality as well as subtle yet powerful design interventions are what make the project timeless. Myeong-dong M Plaza Renovation is where a unique texture and pattern of the facade emits a vibrant atmosphere, optimizing the retail experience of the end users. Broken down to a much intimate scale to the human-beings, it has become one of the most popular tourist destinations in Korea.
